Theory of Coconutism

The Theory of Coconutism is a system of thought centered around maintaining a positive mentality throughout one's daily life, especially when training. One should always believe that he or she is capable of accomplishing any feat of strength or skill that their peers are capable of. The concept of "not strong enough" or "not skilled enough" is a tempting and ready replacement for hard work, but is only relevant to the moment when a challenge is first conceived. Under the stipulations of the Theory of Coconutism, if it is humanly possible, you are encouraged to FIND A WAY TO DO IT.

Etymology:
The term "coconut" is used as a substitution for the word "CAN'T". This is necessary because of participating practitioners who refuse to utter the word, even in recognition of the use of the word or the word itself. Using the word "CAN'T" is often referred to as "dropping a coconut". Hence, the Theory of Coconutism. The concept may be applied to any situation or any form of training, but is heavily rooted in the training of the physical discipline of PARKOUR.

Stipulations and regulations:
  • The main goal is for one to never have the mindset of "CAN'T" and to eradicate the word from the practitioner's vocabulary.
  • In practice, anyone who hears a fellow practitioner say "CAN'T" is in the position to give "prizes" to the one who originally said it.
  • "Prizes" are any increment of physical conditioning based on the experience of the negatively-minded practitioner. For most beginners, "prizes" are commonly 10 standard push-ups. Intermediate or advanced practitioners are subject to more extreme variations of conditioning (i.e. pistol squats, concrete rolls, etc.).
  • "Prizes" are not to be viewed as a punishment, but as a friendly reinforcement of the positive mindset. Upon completion, the appropriate sentiment should be ‘thank you for making me physically and mentally stronger’.
  • Based on the one's involvement in either enforcing or participating, phrases such as "impossible" may be grounds for a "prize". Failure to recognize the name Sebastien Foucan may also result in a hefty "prize".

woot woot for prizes. i know that my homies, up here in denton, have given me tons of prizes. i have seriously stopped using the word at all. if i do use it when im not training i immediately, remember that if they were here i right now i would be pushing dirt. and to not recognize the name of Foucan is a serious blasphemy to your sport. pray that God makes you that great someday far in your future!!

Parkour NOT Banned in Areas of NYC PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matthew Willis

-As posted on the front page of America Parkour-articles

As promised we watied for an update from Sha, and here's the short of it - Parkour is NOT banned in NYC by name. Sha's information was based on what he was told by a Park Police officer, however there is no specific law or legislation against parkour. There is (and has been for a long time) legislation against climbing on things, this is not new. What this has done is opened a dialog between Sha and the Battery Park Police that will hopefully spawn an open and positive relationship between traceurs and the police in New York. Read more for Sha's updated message.

Cause I can't go to practice even though I want to join you I don't have a car to go there. And no one is available who can share their ride with me and that's the reason why.

Young Palettes is an Austin-based nonprofit organization, created by Chef Marcus Willis and Chef Arnold Perez (Austin locals). Chef Arnold Perez and Chef Marcus Willis have both received their Culinary degrees from ACC Culinary Program. Young Palettes targets obesity and childhood obesity. It promotes healthy and sustainable living practices concerning food, and classes are offered for both the child/children and their parents. Young Palettes is part of a new awareness of affordable, healthy meals for the kids, families and athletes:

“We believe that anyone can live healthy on a budget without sacrificing the pleasure of eating. Our goal is to help people turn away from cheap, unhealthy, processed food. Theywill lose weight and feel healthier with the guidance of our recipes, by attending our classes, searching our web site, using our cookbooks, attending our training camps, events, and participating in our community outreach.”

Young Palettes started under TXPK in an effort to help practitioners acquire the proper type of fuel for every stage of their training, meeting them at their level. We feel the partnership will create healthy lifestyles through physical fitness and nutrition.

Come be a part of our movement for affordable, healthy, sustainable eating practices!

Mission Statement

Young Palettes promotes healthy and sustainable living practices using all facets of agriculture, with an emphasis in helping youth and obese families.

Vision Statement
Young Palettes is a green-minded nonprofit that helps educate children and parents on healthy eating practices. Our focus concentrates on childhood obesity, healthy eating, food budgets, sustainable and nutritional agriculture, as well as how those may affect families and communities. By targeting both children and their parents, we will raise awareness about the importance of living healthy through educated food choices.
